There are seven numbers on the signature strip on the back of my card, why do people only want the last three?What are the first FOUR numbers for on the CVV on a credit card?
Because only the last 3 are truly the CVV. It's for security purposes.
Some banks will have you read all the numbers to ensure you have the card with you if it is an added security feature.
If the first four numbers on the back of the card on the signature strip are the last four numbers on your credit card, it's just how the program is designed to print on the card strip and it's not an added security feature.What are the first FOUR numbers for on the CVV on a credit card?
why dont you ask the people that ask you for the last 3 digits why they want them
For security reasons, I'd guess.
The 3 are the ';signature code';
The other four, I'd guess are either the first four,last four, or expiration date on your card.
check digits
They just need the last three digits to verify the entire number. The chances are that if you have the last three digits you have them all, so they don't bother asking for them. Only the bank used the whole number, I think it's for fraud prevention.
The first part of the number is the same as your credit card number, which they already have. The last 3 are your signature numbers, which prove you actually have the card in your hands and aren't just reading off a receipt you found in the trash at the gas station. It's to protect everyone from fraud.
