you don't port your contact list, you copy them from your old phone. unless you use a service like sprint has in which yhour contact list is stored on their system, then it really doesn't matter... your account is your account regardless of the number.
Bring both phones into your carrier's store and ask them to transfer the data for you. Some carriers will charge you a fee some won't. It all depends. They may be able to copy over pictures as well. I had to replace my old phone and they did that for me.
