What are the S and P numbers in the periodic table for?

and can anyone describe for me the electon affinity and negativity, please i am stuck.What are the S and P numbers in the periodic table for?
These are a way of describing the locations of the electrons.


They are how the shells split up.


There is a degree-level explanation as to why the following numbers are the way they are, but I doubt you want me to go into that much detail.


The first one is the s orbital, it can hold 2 electrons. Elements filling this orbital are hydrogen, helium and the s block elements.


The second is the p orbital, it can hold 6 electrons. Elements that are filling up this orbital go in the p block.


The third is the d orbital; it can hold 10 electrons and gives rise to the transition metals.


The fourth is the f block. It can hold, as I remember, 12 electrons and gives rise to the lanthanides and actinides, at the bottom of the table.





eg. 2s^2 means that the s orbital in the 2nd shell has 2 electrons in it.


Argon is 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6. If you add them together you get 2 electrons in the first shell and 8 in the 2nd.





Electron affinity/electronegativity values only apply across bonds. If a more electronegative atom is bonded to a less electronegative atom, the electrons forming the bond spend more time nearer the more electronegative nucleus.What are the S and P numbers in the periodic table for?

in the atomic structure, there are energy shells, but in between these are sub-shells - which lie electrons.


each element has a different electronic configuration e.g





1s2 2s2 etc..





s can have a maximum of 2 electrons


p '; '; 6


d '; '; 10





these are what you need to know for chemsitry as level.

    There should be small switches in the door opener motor and the same in the remote. Open both of these, look for switches and make the change to both of them to that they read the same.
    There is a button on the motor unit that you have to press to change the code.

    Why is it so much more difficult to recite the alphabet backwards than numbers?

    Why can we almost automatically recite numbers backwards but it takes a bit of thought to do the alphabet backwards? Is it because it is mathematical? Is it because we have had more practice doing it?Why is it so much more difficult to recite the alphabet backwards than numbers?

    I think it's because of having more practice.


    One time when I was bored on a long trip when I was a kid, I memorized the alphabet backwards. ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA. See! Now I can do it and barely think about it.


    If you asked me to do the alphabet by 2s or backwards by 2s then I would be stuck again. I have never memorized the numbers for most of the alphabet either (A=1, B=2, C=3 etc.)
    probably for two reasons:





    1) we learn to count backwards as children, when playing games.





    2) to count backwards only requires us to memorize 10 items in order (10, 9 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) but to recite the alphabet backwards requires us to memorize a sequence of 26 items in order.
    I think it's because when you learned to subtract, they taught you to count backwards to get to the number, but no one ever told you do say the alphabet backwards, I'm sure if you practiced saying the alphabet backwards enough times, it would come just as naturaly as counting backwards.
    i had to memorize the alphabet backwards for a grade in the 5th grade so it is eays for me.





    but this is a good question. i dont really know. mabye because that numbers have repeating patterns and they are easier to learn
