How do I insert APA style numbers in word document?

Instructions specifically for Word 2003, although it's essentially the same process in other versions:





Go to File%26gt;Page Setup%26gt;Layout, and under Headers and Footers, select ';Different first page.'; This can in effect tell Word to not put a header on the first page.





Then go to the second page of your document and select View%26gt;Header and Footer. Little dashed boxes appear at the top and bottom of each page, as well as a new Header and Footer toolbar.





Click in the dashed box at the top of page 2 that says ';Header'; (not ';First Page Header'; on page 1) to edit its contents.





Right-justify the text you are about to enter by pressing Ctrl+R.





Type the text you want to appear at the top of every page, if any. When you come to the part of your header that will be the changing page number, rather than typing ';2';, press the button on the Headers and Footers toolbar that has a ';#'; symbol alone (the button is called ';Insert Page Number'; and is usually one of the first on the toolbar). If you're on the second page, a special ';2'; will appear that will change from page-to-page.





You can also scroll down to the bottom of the page and type in the box called ';Footer.'; Or, if you want a special version of the header/footer on the first page (probably not, but it's good to know), you can go to page 1 and type in the special ';First Page'; header and footer boxes.





When you are satisfied with the formatting of your headers and/or footers (which can be tailored much like normal text), click ';Close,'; the last button on the Headers and Footers toolbar to return to your main document.

if it's apa, they go in the bottom right corner.


click on ';insert'; , click pg. numbers


on the box that opens, select ';bottom of page (footer) and 'right'


below this, there is a selection square that gives you the option to put the number 1 on the first pg. de-select it. you should not have a number on the title page.
