How do I find the greatest common numerical factor of these pairs of numbers?

3, 5

3,6

4,14

Is there a trick to this?How do I find the greatest common numerical factor of these pairs of numbers?
If both numbers are prime then their gcf is 1.

3 and 5 are both prime.

So gcf(3, 5) = 1

If one number is a multiple of the other, their gcf is the smaller number.

6 is a multiple of 3.

So gcf(3, 6) = 3

The general method would be to find the prime factors of each number and then ascertain their gcf by inspection.

4 = 2 x 2

14 = 2 x 7

gcf(4, 14) = 2
